Protecting Personal Information & Preventing Fraud Community Seminar
With rapid advances in AI, risks from personal data exposure—such as identity theft, financial loss, damaged credit, online fraud, and privacy violations—are rising. At the same time, telecom and online scams are proliferating, including phishing, deepfake impersonation, romance-investment scams (often called “pig-butchering”), in-person financial fraud, and marriage scams—creating serious safety concerns for the public. To help our community stay safe, the York Region Community Support Alliance (YRCSA), together with partners, hosted a free public seminar: “AI Era: Safeguarding Personal Information & Fraud Prevention.” A cybersecurity expert and a licensed Ontario private investigator shared real cases and practical strategies, highlighting why personal data protection matters and how to prevent scams in the digital age.
